Welcome to the Data Science and System Informatics (DSSI) Lab!

We are located in the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA). The lab is directed by Dr. Hongyue Sun, an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering.

Our research focuses on data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) in advanced manufacturing, occupational safety, and healthcare systems. Our work addresses hands-on, simulation, and computational research, including human-robot collaboration, digital twin development, and AI for process modeling and control.

About the Principal Investigator

Prior to joining the University of Georgia, Dr. Sun served as an assistant professor in Industrial Engineering at the University at Buffalo. He holds a highly multidisciplinary background, having earned a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech (2017), an M.S. in Statistics from Virginia Tech (2015), and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology (2012).

Dr. Sun’s research has been broadly supported by the NSF, NIOSH, the U.S. Navy, and MxD. His work has been recognized with several best paper awards from INFORMS and IISE, as well as the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from SME. He is an active member of IISE, INFORMS, IEEE, and ASME.

Prospective Students: We are actively looking for self-motivated undergraduate and graduate students to join our lab. If you are interested in AI-enabled smart manufacturing, process analytics, or human-robot collaboration, please reach out!
